In the statement, the General Staff of the Cabindan Armed Forces (FAC) “firmly denounces the incursion of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) into the territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo, more specifically into the territory of Tshela, in the province of Kongo Central, in the Congolese villages of Kimbanza-Mbemba and Mbuku-Yola”.
“These acts took place on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, at 6:30 am, in the villages of Kimbanza-Mbemba and Mbuku-Yola, located in the territory of Tshela, in the province of Kongo Central”, details the note signed by Lieutenant General João Cruz Mavinga Lúcifer, head of the FAC Special Forces directorate.
The FAC General Staff adds that at 5:00 am this Wednesday “violent fighting broke out between the Cabindan Armed Forces and the occupying armed forces of the FAA, near the Kisungu border, between the Democratic-Congolese village of Mbuku-Yola, which it claims resulted in the death of 12 Angolan soldiers.
The Cabindan independence supporters condemn what they classify as “violations of the sovereignty” of the DR Congo and call on “the international community to take appropriate measures against these acts of cross-border aggression”.
The FLEC-FAC has been demanding for several years the independence of the territory of Cabinda, a province in the north, from where much of the country’s oil comes, invoking the 1885 Treaty of Simulambuco, which designates that part of the territory as a Portuguese protectorate.
