Cited by Angop, the official added that the hiring of specialists in the areas of civil, mechanical and computer engineering is already underway and that they will then move on to hiring construction personnel, in a scenario that estimates the inclusion of 35 expatriates.

He also declared the willingness of the Ministry of Transport to integrate young people trained locally for their first job in the project.

The official, who was speaking as part of a consultation meeting with local entities, also informed that seven ships with equipment will arrive in the province within the next few days, to start the works, which should take 35 months.

"This is a fact for Namibe province and it will contribute to the collection of revenue for the State coffers, having created all the administrative and financial conditions required at this time", he said, quoted by Angop.

The project is the result of a public-private partnership, since it concerns an area that is part of the port's public domain: "We, the Ministry of Transport and with the involvement of the Provincial Government and the Ministry of Public Works and Planning of the Territory, we created a package for a private initiative to advance with qualifications, with the intention of creating a project with great impact on the country's development", he explained.

The project, valued at US$600 million, comprises the recovery of the Saco-Mar mining terminal, the construction of a maritime protection barrier, among others, which will stimulate the economic development of Namibe, writes Angop.

The meeting was attended by members of the Government, the management of Empresa Portuária do Namibe, the contractor consortium TTC/TOA as well as Archer Mangueira, governor of that province.
