Fire destroys the country's biggest egg producer's warehouse

A fire of great proportions destroyed this Tuesday the distribution center of the biggest national company in the poultry sector, in Luanda, but it will not affect the production of eggs, told Lusa the person in charge of the Diside group, which owns Kikovo.

Elisabete Dias dos Santos stated that the fire "does not compromise" the group's operations or the Kikovo brand, as the egg production units have autonomous refrigeration units.

According to the spokesman for the Civil Protection and Fire Service, Faustino Migues, the alert was given at 2:00 am by a citizen who was passing in the vicinity of the site, located in Viana, on the outskirts of Luanda.

"We mobilized the Viana barracks, taking into account the magnitude of the fire, and sent five vehicles and 22 personnel," said Faustino Miguéns.

The fire was controlled and extinguished about two and a half hours later, he said, stressing that the prompt intervention of firefighters prevented the flames from reaching the fuel tank located next to the generator group.

The fire reduced to ashes the industrial complex consisting of five naves with cold rooms that were used to store fresh items.

"It is presumed that it was a short circuit", said the head of the fire department, adding that the investigation was continuing.

Asked about the damages, Faustino Miguéns said that the damages are still being evaluated with the direction of the company, which belongs to the Diside group of businesswoman Elisabete Dias dos Santos, daughter of the president of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos "Nandó".

The businesswoman told Lusa that, "in terms of the group's strategy", the idea was to channel all fresh production to the distribution center that burned down.

In addition to Kikovo and the Pérola do Kikuxi farm, where eggs are produced, the Diside group owns Solmar, a company dedicated to fishing and fish processing.
