Covid-19: Africa with 363 more deaths and 13,649 infected in the last 24 hours

Africa recorded an additional 363 deaths associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 130,814, and 13,649 infected, according to the latest official data.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of cases on the continent is 4,843,874 and the number of recovered cases is 4,379,046, plus 13,819 in the last 24 hours.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 2,082,016 cases and 64,818 deaths associated with covid-19. In this region is the country most affected by the covid-19 in the continent, South Africa, which counts 1,665,617 cases and 56,506 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected region on the continent, with 1,462,418 infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and 44,135 deaths associated with the infection.

East Africa accounts for 651,652 infections and 12,801 deaths, and the West African region records 473,471 cases of infection and 6266 deaths.

The Central African region has the least number of infections and deaths, 174,317 and 2794 respectively.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 15,096 deaths and 262,650 infected, followed by Tunisia, with 12,654 deaths and 345,474 cases, and Morocco, which counts a higher number of infections in relation to these two countries, 519,216 cases, but fewer deaths, 9147 deaths associated with the disease.

Among the countries most affected are Ethiopia, with 4165 fatalities and 271,541 infections, and Algeria, with 3603 deaths and 129,013 infected.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 836 deaths and 70,795 cases, followed by Angola (766 deaths and 34,551 cases of infection), Cape Verde (264 deaths and 30,439 cases), Equatorial Guinea (118 deaths and 8529 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (68 dead and 3766 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (37 dead and 2344 cases).
