Remittances from Angolans to Portugal rise 53.6 percent in April

Remittances from Angolan workers residing in Portugal rose 53.6 percent, to more than one million euros, in April, recovering from the fall registered during last year due to the covid-19 pandemic, according to official data.

According to data from Banco de Portugal, Angolan emigrants in Portugal sent 1.09 million euros to their country, representing an increase of 53.6 percent compared to the 690 thousand euros they had sent in April of the year. past, already in the context of the covid-19 pandemic.

As traditionally, the amounts of remittances from Angolans are very significant in relation to the amounts sent by Africans from Portuguese-speaking countries, who sent in total, in April, 3.58 million euros, representing an increase of 53.6 percent compared to 2.3 million sent in April of last year.

Conversely, remittances sent by Portuguese people working in Angola rose 1.1 percent, from 9.4 million in April 2020 to 9.5 million euros in April this year.

In total remittances sent by Portuguese workers in Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP), there was an increase of 0.9 percent, with funds increasing from 10.1 million to 10.2 million euros.

Globally, Portuguese remittances decreased by 0.47 percent, dropping from 281.4 million euros in April 2020 to 280.12 million euros in April this year.

In the opposite direction, foreigners working in Portugal sent 39.9 million euros, which represents an increase of 24.3 percent compared to the 32.1 million euros sent in April last year.
