Ricardo de Abreu, who was speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the margins of an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), added that the preliminary document for the regulation of motorcycle taxi drivers is already in circulation in some ministerial departments, also related to this matter.

"This work is done, we are listening to our partners, our colleagues, in order to quickly submit to the Council of Ministers the proposal for the regulation of motor-taxi activity in the country", he said.

He also mentioned that the joint executive decree, as well as the Ministry of Transport's decree, mention the authorisation of motorcycle taxis to circulate, "provided that the mechanisms of individual protection of passengers and also of motorcycle taxi drivers are used".

The activity of motorcycle taxi drivers was prohibited in Luanda due to the covid-19 pandemic, and is authorised in the rest of the country, with the health rules of individual protection being observed by both the driver and the passenger.

Last week a group of motorcycle taxi drivers went to the government of Luanda province to demand the resumption of the activity, taking into account the difficulties they have been experiencing for about three months.

Luanda province is the epicentre of the pandemic, with 189 positive cases to date, which have resulted in ten deaths and 77 recovered, with a health fence in the capital so far.
