Angolan international Carlos Morais is on the run for the “Best Smash of the Decade” award, an initiative of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

After going through the programs “O Momento da Blindada” and “Viva Em Casa”, from the channel ZAP Viva, the athlete did not hide his desire to be chosen, stating that he considers the prize an important recognition not only for the sport and its competitors but also for your country, Angola.

 

“This contest / hobby aims to find the best 'dunk / smash' in the last 10 years (2010-2020). At this moment I have passed the first ‘round’ and I am in the second. Voting is taking place on the FIBA ​​website. Just search for my video and vote as many times as you want. For now, the competition is two by two, if I beat this competitor I will continue in the competition, of course, already facing another participant ”, explained to presenters Patrícia Pacheco and Daniel Nascimento.

 

The MVP of AfroBaskets 2007 and 2009 also revealed the pride he felt when he learned that he was one of those selected for this international initiative, showing himself honored to see his name alongside great figures of the sport on a global scale.

 

"It is a pride to be in this position competing for a prize organized by an organ of such worldwide relevance. Being in a competition like this and going to the end or even winning, will certainly be a great step for all of us. For me it is a great honor. be among those selected ”, admitted, quoted by Sapo.

 

Carlos Morais did not hesitate to ask for the support of all Angolans around the world so that he could see his as the “Best Smash of the Decade”. “Angolan family, sports lovers, people who like Carlos Morais, I want you to know that not only my name is at stake but the name of the country, because I am the only Angolan competing. I hope to count on your vote and I think that in the end we will all win ”, he appealed.

 

The contest, whose voting ends on the 28th of this month, gathers the 32 most important 'dunks' - better known as dunks - selected by FIBA ​​and registered between 2010 and 2020.

 

The base winger is one of the references of Angolan and African basketball. He was close to being the first Angolan to play in the NBA, for the Toronto Raptors, but was unable to join the squad of 15 chosen. After stints at the Portuguese Sport Lisboa e Benfica and the Italian championship, he returned to the home of Petro Atlético, who led the national championship this season, now interrupted taking into account the covid-19 pandemic.
