In a communication to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM), Sonaecom, which holds 50 per cent of ZOPT's share capital, states that "on 12 June last" the participated company was "notified of the order issued by the Central Criminal Investigation Court of Lisbon authorising it to exercise the voting right corresponding to the 26.075 per cent of the share capital of NOS pre-emptively seized by the said court".
The shareholders of NOS meet exclusively by videoconference on 19 June to resolve, among other points, on the proposal to pay a dividend of 27.8 cents per share.
On 4 April, Sonaecom had informed the market that the court had decided to make a preventive seizure of 26.075 per cent of the share capital of NOS, following the publication of news about allegedly fraudulent schemes involving the Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos.
ZOPT is 50 per cent owned by Sonaecom and the remaining half by Isabel dos Santos.
The preventive seizure of 26.075 per cent of the share capital of NOS, SGPS was "corresponding to half of the share capital in NOS held by ZOPT 'and, indirectly, by Unitel International Holdings, BV and Kento Holding Limited', controlled by engineer Isabel dos Santos".
The shares seized (134,322,268.5 shares), under the terms of that communication, were "deprived of the right to vote and the right to receive dividends", and another half was not seized.
Last year, the profit of NOS rose 4.2 per cent, compared to the previous year, to 143.5 million euros.
