Covid-19 leaves more than 2700 Angolans waiting to return to the country

More than 2700 Angolan citizens are abroad waiting to be able to return to Angola, with the largest number being in Portugal (728), indicates the Report on Activities Carried out for Pandemic Control of covid-19.

The document presented this Tuesday at the National Assembly states that of the total of 2702 Angolans in this situation, 687 citizens are in border countries - 185 in Namibia, 112 in Zambia, 367 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and 23 in the Republic of Congo .

Portugal is the country that hosts the largest number of Angolan citizens (728), followed by South Africa, with 536, Brazil, with 200, and India, with 157.

Angola recorded the first case of covid-19 on 21 March, from there to the present it has a total of 92 infected, of which four people died and 38 managed to recover.

To mitigate the effects of the pandemic, President João Lourenço created the Multisectoral Commission for the Prevention and Combat of Covid-19, decreed a state of emergency on 27 March, with three extensions, which ended on 25 May, declaring the situation of public calamity, from 26 May.

In Africa, there are 5334 confirmed deaths and about 196,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the most recent statistics on the continent's pandemic.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 404,000 deaths and infected more than seven million people in 196 countries and territories, according to the balance made by the French agency AFP.
