Global Fund makes more than 80 million available to Angola to fight diseases

The Global Fund will make available to Angola, in the next three years, an amount of US $ 82.6 million for the fight against HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, the Ministry of Health announced.

In a press release, the ministerial organ informs that the global amount of the grant allocation to Angola for the period 2021-2024 represents an increase of 56 percent compared to the current allocation of US $ 52.8 million.

"This amount will be available to Angola after the submission of a request for financing to be developed by the National Coordination Mechanism (MCN) in the coming months", the document reads.

According to the Ministry of Health, the announcement of the allocation of funds to combat major endemic diseases in the country was made this Tuesday during a high-level meeting, by videoconference, between Luanda and Geneva, headquarters of the Global Fund secretariat.

At the meeting, the statement said, the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, presented the progress on the Roadmap for Access to the Letter of Attribution signed during a high-level Global Fund mission in Angola, in January 2020.

The Roadmap contains "a series of measures towards strengthening the partnership between the Global Fund and the Government of Angola, including the reimbursement of ineligible expenses, the improvement of MCN performance and the presentation of a report on the co-financing commitments undertaken by the Government Angolan ".

"The head of Global Fund Grant Management, Mark Edington, confirmed the Global Fund's satisfaction with Angola's progress in implementing the main reforms of the Roadmap," notes the document.

The statement said that by September 30, 200, the MCN should submit a request for funding to the Global Fund that "will be developed through a transparent and inclusive process of dialogue between various stakeholders in Angola".

According to the guidelines provided in the Allocation Letter released by the Global Fund, he explains, the allocation of three-year funding will follow a targeted subnational approach, funding a comprehensive service package for the three diseases and their activities to strengthen health systems. in a number of provinces.

The Global Fund has already disbursed more than US $ 280 million to Angola since 2003 to support the fight against HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and to strengthen local health systems.

According to the same information, the Global Fund recently approved an additional financing of US $ 2.1 million to support Angola's response to the covid-19 pandemic to finance the purchase of diagnostics and personal protective equipment.
