This is the second death to have occurred in South Africa, where four of the 17 injured were taken for specialized medical treatment.
Another worker, who had been reported missing, was also found dead and "efforts are continuing to recover the body found near the platform and consequently identify it," according to the statement signed by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas (MIREMPET), the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) and Cabgoc, a subsidiary of the US company Chevron.
The accident occurred during a maintenance operation on the Benguela Belize Lobito Tomboco (BBLT) deepwater platform operated by Cabinda Golf Oil Company Limited (Cabgoc).
Cabgoc is a Chevron subsidiary in Angola, which operates two concessions on behalf of its partners in Block 0: Sonangol E. P. (41 percent) and TotalEnergies EP Petroleum (Angola) SAS. (10 percent), and Azule Energy Angola Production B.V. and in Block 14: Sonangol P&P (20 percent), Angola Block 14 B.V (20 percent), Azule Energy Angola (20 percent), and Etu Energias (9 percent).
