Cabgoc announces one person missing after fire on oil rig

Cabinda Golf Oil Company Limited (Cabgoc), a subsidiary of Chevron, said on Wednesday that one person was missing following a fire on an oil platform on Tuesday, which left 17 people injured, four in serious condition.

Chevron's statement, without providing further details, stressed that its subsidiary continues to work closely with government agencies and has mobilized resources to conduct search and rescue operations.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday on the basement deck of Cabgoc's Benguela Belize Lobito Tomboco (BBLT) deepwater platform, located in Block 14, offshore Cabinda.

The incident left 17 people injured, four of whom were seriously injured, and occurred at a time when the BBLT facility was undergoing annual maintenance as part of a scheduled shutdown, with all local production having been shut down since the 1st of this month.

The injured are all receiving appropriate medical care on land and the cause of the incident is being investigated, according to the company.

“The safety and well-being of our workforce remains our highest priority. Cabgoc is working with contractors to provide support to affected individuals and their families. We will provide updates as additional information becomes available,” Chevron said in a statement. Cabgoc is a Chevron subsidiary in Angola that operates two concessions on behalf of its partners in Block 0: Sonangol E. P. (41 percent), TotalEnergies EP Petroleum (Angola) SAS. (10 percent), and Azule Energy Angola Production B.V. (9.8 percent); and in Block 14: Sonangol P&P (20 percent), Angola Block 14 B.V. (20 percent), Azule Energy Angola (20 percent), and Etu Energias (9 percent).
