"Angola won the title of African youth MMA champion, accumulating a total of 16 medals: 10 gold, five silver and one bronze, in its first participation at this level at continental level", informed the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.
Cláudio Fontoura (57 kg), Joana Bel (62 kg), Lucas Mendes (48 kg), Gisela Luna Anastácio (48 kg), Mayra Lemos (62 kg), Stelvia Muhanha (44 kg), Milfa Nicolau (83 kg), Paulo Alfredo (52.2 kg), Marcos Amaro (-120 kg) and Joveth Mavimgu (65 kg) were the athletes who won gold.
Silver was won by Alicia Capita (48 kg), Yessu Lima (57 kg), Generosa Catila (44 kg), Leonildes Cangombe (52.2 kg) and Gilberto Monteiro (-120 kg), while Junior Pinto (61 kg) won the bronze medal.
According to the guardianship, from this Thursday until Sunday, the "dispute at the junior and senior levels" will begin, where the country seeks to "reaffirm its dominance and win the title of champion".
According to Armando Diogo, president of the MMA federation, cited by Jornal de Angola, with this achievement, the national team qualified for the world championship, taking place in August in Abu Dhabi, in the youth category. The official added that the country will work to achieve the same in the junior and senior categories, with the World Cup taking place in November in Uzbekistan.
