According to the same source, Portuguese workers in Angola sent 71.3 million euros from January to March 2023, increasing this amount to 80.6 million in the first three months of this year, leading to an increase of 13.1 percent in remittances received by Portugal.
Conversely, Angolans working in Portugal sent 2 million euros in the first quarter of this year, which represents a drop of 18.2 percent compared to the 2.4 million sent in the first three months of last year.
Looking only at March, the drop is even more pronounced, as the amount sent to the second largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa falls from 750 thousand euros to 680 thousand euros, a reduction of 22.5 percent.
At the global PALOP level, Portuguese-speaking African immigrants in Portugal sent 11 million euros in the first three months, which represents an increase of 1.4 percent compared to the 10.9 million sent in the first three months of last year.
Conversely, the Portuguese working in the PALOP sent 82.1 million euros in the first quarter of this year, which represents an increase of 11.5 percent compared to the 73.7 million sent in the first three months of last year.
