Minister advances that teachers' May salary will include a subsidy of 12.5 percent

The Minister of Education said this Tuesday, in Luanda, that teachers' May salaries are already being processed with a subsidy of 12.5 percent and retroactive since March.

According to Luísa Grilo, the new 12.5 percent subsidy for pedagogical innovation has already been published in Diário da República, whose failure to implement this month could lead to a new stoppage of classes, according to the Teachers Union (Sinprof).

"It has already been published in Diário da República, on May 17 and payment is ongoing, the decree itself states that it is retroactive payment from March", said Luísa Grilo, in statements to the Lusa agency.

Sinprof's secretary general, Admar Jinguma, confirmed that the subsidy has already been included in the payroll, "which means that this month teachers will already have access to this subsidy".

“The only doubt that still exists, we have already asked for clarification, I think we will have it today, is regarding the payment of arrears. The decree retroacts the implementation of the subsidy from the month of March, the only information we want to have is how they are going to pay this retroactive, if it will be in one go now or next month, there is still a lot of conflicting information about the subject”, said Admar Jinguma to Lusa.

About this doubt, the Minister of Education said that the form of payment of this retroactive is at the discretion of the Minister of Finance.

“I know that they are processing the salary for the month of May with retroactive effects”, stressed the holder of the Finance portfolio.

In 2019, teachers presented a 15-point claim booklet, having already carried out a two-phase strike, with the third scheduled for the beginning of this year suspended.
