Government approves ‘Attendency Award’ for education agents. Subsidy equals 12.5 percent of base salary

The Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, revealed that an additional remuneration, called 'Attendency Premium', will be included in the subsidy table for teachers and other agents in the sector. The new subsidy, according to the governor, is equivalent to 12.5 percent of the base salary.

The measure was approved this Wednesday by the Council of Ministers, which assessed and approved the draft diploma that amends the Remuneration Statute for the Career of Education Agents.

Speaking at the end of the council session, Luísa Grilo explained that this subsidy will amount to 12.5 percent of the base salary and will be included in next month's salary.

"The 'Attendency Award' values the performance of the teachers, the good participation of the teachers and the effort that each one of them makes so that classes are given in the best possible way. 12.5 percent deducted from your salary basis, which means that depending on the level of each one, you will then have this 12.5 percent", said the minister, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

"From the 1st of March, it has already passed, they will receive it retroactively, we hope that it can already be introduced in the salary of the month of May", added the minister, quoted by RNA.

In addition, the holder of the education portfolio also revealed that this measure will cost the Government, this year, more than 49 billion kwanzas. "It is a permanent award, like the other subsidies we already have (...), all these other subsidies that teachers already received will add to this premium. The effort to materialize the 12.5 percent in 2023 are 49 billion, 455 million, 16 thousand, 262 kwanzas and 88 cents", he said, quoted by RNA.
