Second phase of the PREI scheduled to start in a month and a half

A month and a half is the deadline for starting the implementation of the second phase of the Informal Economy Reconversion Program (PREI) for 2023-2027.

:

Teresa Dias, Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security – when speaking at the end of an ordinary session of the meeting of the Multisectoral Commission for the Execution of the Strategy for the Formalization of the Economy, which took place this Thursday – explained that this new version of the program there will be improvements, considering the strong and weak aspects that were verified in the first stage of the PREI (which made it possible to formalize 236 thousand informal economic operators).

Cited by Angop, the minister guaranteed that the commission is working to improve the second version of the programme, in order to offer some comfortable benefits to the agents.

Thus, she advanced, this new version also foresees the granting of microcredits in a more "calibrated" way, whose monitoring will be more perfected, as well as enabling operators in matters related to the payment of taxes and Social Security benefits, writes Angop.

On the occasion, the holder of the Public Administration, Labor and Social Security portfolio also made a brief assessment of the first phase of the PREI: adherence to formalization was satisfactory in national terms, despite the "non-full fulfillment of tax obligations by the operators," said the minister, quoted by Angop.

Regarding the amounts pocketed in the first stage of the program, Teresa Dias did not reveal numbers. However, she also highlighted that in the current version, citizens showed greater interest in formalizing their businesses than paying taxes, something that will be reviewed in the next programme, writes Angop.

It should be noted that the PREI was designed by the Government, within the scope of the National Development Plan (PDN) 2018-2022, aiming to promote the transition from informal economy to formal economy in the country.

In the session, according to Angop, the summary presentation of the executive action plan of the PREI for 2023-2027, the base report of the programme's revenues, among others, was examined.
