The ERCA, in a deliberation made public this Friday, recommends those responsible for the editorial management of the media to "be the first" to observe compliance with the Constitution and the law, "regardless of the editorial line of each organ".
The promotion of pluralism of opinion on current political, social, economic and cultural issues in the country and coverage of "fairer and more balanced" party political activity are among the recommendations.
The ERCA also recommends that the media should be "dynamic in the tireless search" and treatment of facts and that they be "true intermediaries between political actors and society, avoiding being an active part of the debate".
That entity says it observes "little coverage" of the media in the coverage of party political activities and asks for "openness to the participation of all political actors", especially in an election year.
According to the ERCA, within the limits that the law imposes on freedom of expression and information, the daily action of the editorial managers of the organs "must be guided by respect for the principles of impartiality, objectivity and exemption".
"In this perspective, the ERCA observes that not infrequently the media have not been sufficiently comprehensive in the coverage of party political activity", reads the deliberation.
Bearing in mind the "need for Angola to preserve the achievements achieved, such as independence, peace and national reconciliation, and the holding of general elections in a climate of complete stability", says the entity, the media, its professionals, regardless of the their condition, must be guided by respect for the Constitution and the law".
General elections in Angola are scheduled for the second half of August, as established in the Constitution, revised in 2021.
