Ambassador highlights “firm and honorable presence” of Portuguese companies in Angola

The Portuguese ambassador highlighted this Thursday the “firm and honorable presence” of Portuguese companies in Angola, even in difficult times, guaranteeing “to contribute to its strengthening” taking into account the “great purpose” of diversifying the national economy.

"Even in difficult times, as has happened with the economic recession and in the context of a pandemic, Portuguese companies have always maintained a firm presence, honored their obligations, always paid their salaries, kept most of their jobs", said Francisco Alegre. Duarte, in Luanda.

The diplomat who was speaking at the end of his visit to Caetano Angola, a company of the Portuguese group Salvador Caetano, guaranteed "to contribute to strengthening the presence of [Portuguese businessmen] who are in Angola and also to bring new companies".

"Responding to this great goal of the Government and the Angolan people, which is the diversification of the economy for the creation of wealth and employment and we are going to create between Portugal and Angola a space of shared prosperity", he stressed.

According to Francisco Alegre Duarte, he heard from Caetano Angola "a confidence and a strategic sense of presence in Angola", as he has heard from most Portuguese companies in the country.

Regarding the challenges and concerns presented by the company's management, dedicated to the import and repair of vehicles, the Portuguese diplomat said that in the "globality" Caetano Angola "is satisfied" to operate in the country.

"In the lives of companies, institutions and people there are no perfect situations, we all have difficulties in everyday life, of course there may be occasional difficulties, but what I heard in general was a message of trust, satisfaction and optimism in relation to the future", he told Lusa.

Angola, from his "point of view, is doomed to grow" and "Portugal, Portuguese companies and companies with cross-shareholdings will contribute to this goal", concluded the Portuguese ambassador.
