Angola “has an opinion to give to the world” in terms of environmental preservation

The resident representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Angola said this Tuesday that the country has an opinion to give the world on actions to preserve the environment, mainly due to its “strong positioning” in Africa.

:

Edo Stork, who was speaking this Tuesday on the sidelines of an in-person consultative seminar, aimed at the international conference "Stockholm +50", which takes place on June 2nd and 3rd in Sweden, Angola may seek at this meeting "more funding to preserve the its great biodiversity".

"Angola has a lot of strength, a great economy, a strong position in Africa and Angola's opinion really counts in the world and that's why we are here with great enthusiasm to collect opinions from everyone", he said, in statements to the press.

Angola is preparing to submit, at the Stockholm summit, a report on concerns about environmental issues and therefore promotes, in Luanda, this seminar with various civil society actors and international partners.

For Edo Stork, the consultation is of great relevance "since Angola is one of the 58 countries in the world that will give their opinions on how to move forward with the world to preserve the planet and take advantage of new opportunities".

"Angola has a lot of possibility to diversify the economy, we are already working together and we are going with entrepreneurs to seek more ways to use less plastic and this will be really important because it is important to preserve the ecosystem and seek synergies to preserve the planet", he stressed.

According to the UNDP representative in Angola, recycling is also a crucial factor for "a healthier environment and also contributes to a lower incidence of malaria", the main cause of deaths and hospital admissions in Angola.

"So there are many possibilities that we can gain and we will gain more impact from moving forward at the same time with coordinated actions", he concluded.

The seminar was promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment in partnership with the Embassy of Kenya, Sweden and UNDP.
