In a statement released on Saturday, the Mirex stated that it is monitoring developments on the ground in “close coordination” with the embassy, given the recent escalation of tensions between Israel and Iran, and is providing all necessary consular and institutional assistance to Angolan citizens who are in Israeli territory.
According to the Ministry, 46 Angolan citizens currently reside in Israel, of which 16 are members of the diplomatic corps and their families and 30 are resident citizens, including 20 adults and 10 children.
In addition to the resident community, an ecclesiastical delegation made up of 44 Angolan pilgrims is in Tel Aviv on a religious and cultural mission, the authorities said.
In the statement, the Mirex also emphasized the government’s “solidarity and support” for all Angolan citizens in that country.
The Ministry also called on all Angolans in Israel to “strictly follow the guidelines and protection and security measures issued by the Israeli authorities and the Angolan Embassy”.
Israel and Iran have been at war since early Friday morning, when Tel Aviv bombed Iranian military and nuclear facilities, causing at least 78 deaths, including military leaders and scientists, and hundreds of injuries, according to Iranian diplomacy.
The Israeli attacks, carried out by around 200 planes against a hundred targets, mainly hit Tehran (north) and the Natanz uranium enrichment plant (centre).
In response, Iran retaliated by launching hundreds of missiles at Israeli territory, causing explosions over the cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, which killed at least three people and left dozens injured.
