Covid-19: Angola with record number of 18 deaths and 154 more cases

Angola has recorded a record 18 deaths in 24 hours due to covid-19, as well as 154 new infections, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, announced Monday.

"For the first time, we registered a high number of deaths," stressed the governor.

The health authorities reported the death of 12 men and six women, between 30 and 81 years old, of which 11 in Luanda, four in Huíla and three in Cabinda, all of them of Angolan nationality.

Of the 154 new cases, 131 were registered in Luanda, 14 in Huambo, four in Huíla, three in Bié, one in Benguela and one in Zaire, with ages ranging from 8 months to 83 years, being 92 male and 62 female.

Another 280 people recovered from the disease, aged between 1 and 83 years old, 253 of them in Luanda.

Angola now has a total of 30.791 cases, 677 deaths, 25.995 recovered and 4119 active, of which 23 in critical condition, 42 severe, 165 moderate and 54 light.

A total of 284 patients are hospitalized.

A total of 1115 samples were processed in this period, for a cumulative 542,067 samples processed to date.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 3,381,042 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 162.9 million cases of infection, according to an assessment made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
