Russian Sputnik-V vaccine begins to be administered in the country this Wednesday

The Russian Sputnik-V vaccine will start to be administered as of this Wednesday, May 12, in the country. The administration of the first dose of this vaccine, intended for people who belong to the priority risk groups, will take place at the Paz Flor vaccination post, Luanda.

The information was advanced by Helga Freitas, National Director of Public Health, who explained that the first dose of the Russian vaccine will be given to people registered by their institutions, with emphasis on bank employees and employees of the General Tax Administration.

"The vaccine will be administered to people who present themselves with the bar code registration of their institution," she indicated, in statements to TPA and quoted by Jornal de Angola.

Helga Fritas revealed that the country will receive 40 thousand doses of Sputnik-V. These doses are part of a batch of 12 million doses of the Russian vaccine, which the country should receive.

The official revealed that about 98 percent of the estimated population has already received the first dose of the vaccine. She also said that since May 3, when the second dose of the vaccine against covid-19 started to be administered, until Monday, May 10, 5.4 percent of the population had been vaccinated.

Benguela, Huíla, Huambo and Cabinda will start the administration of the second dose of the vaccine next week, he said.

It is recalled that earlier this week the government announced the temporary suspension of the administration of the first dose of the vaccine against covid-19, with a view to ensuring the complete protection of people at risk and more exposed to the disease.
