Two of the largest five banks in the country charge minimum services to customers disobeying the BNA

Two of the five largest banks in the country charge commissions and fees on minimum banking services in absentia from the National Bank of Angola (BNA).

:

Although customers are exempt from collection, Banco Millennium Atlântico and Banco BIC violate Presidential Decree 64/18 of 2 March by charging a fee for maintaining current accounts, according to a round in the capital by Expansão.

It should be remembered that, through this same Presidential Decree, banking institutions were prohibited, by the BNA, from proceeding to collect commission or any other type of remuneration for the provision of so-called minimum banking services.

However, Expansão said that at a Millennium Atlântico counter in the center of Luanda, the official informed that the institution charges 5600 kwanzas per quarter to customers, a total of 22,400 kwanzas per year. This information contradicts the bank's price list, available online on its official page. This document, updated in April 2021, indicates that the maintenance of demand deposit accounts is free of charge.

At another counter at the same bank, another employee indicated that the charge was 1000 kwanzas per quarter.

Already at a Banco BIC counter, also in the center of the capital, when asked how much it will cost a customer to maintain his current account at that bank, an official said that the bank discounts 1900 kwanzas per month (22,800 kwanzas per year).

According to the bank's price list, the only accounts that do not charge commissions are the "Bankita Account", whose minimum opening amount is 100 kwanzas, and the "Salary / Salary" account.

In response to the newspaper, Millennium Atlântico claimed that the price list is approved by the regulator, being in the public domain, and the institution has not been notified on the subject to date.
