Covid-19: Hoji-Ya-Henda with four new cases increases the country's total to 77 infected

Angola has registered four new positive cases of infection with the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of infected to 77, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda announced this Thursday.

The new four cases, of local transmission, were identified in the sanitary fence of the neighborhood Hoji-Ya-Henda, in Luanda, where “case 31” resides, a citizen of Guinea-Conakry who returned from Portugal on 17 March.

These are two women, aged 25 and 49, and two men, aged 16 and 35.

Thus, and taking into account the data from the last 24 hours, Angola currently has 77 infected with the new coronavirus, of which 18 recovered, 55 patients are active, one of which requires "special attention", and four resulted in deaths.

Of the more than 10,000 samples collected, 8195 were negative, 77 positive and the rest are being processed.

1070 people remain in institutional quarantine, 453 suspected cases were investigated and 1132 contacts are under surveillance.

Franco Mufinda also said that it is planned for Friday afternoon, the lifting of the sanitary cord of Futungo de Belas, another neighborhood in Luanda associated with local transmission cases, related to the “case 26”.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Guinea-Bissau leads in number of infections (1195 cases and eight deaths), followed by Equatorial Guinea (1043 cases and 12 deaths), Cape Verde (390 cases and four deaths) deaths), São Tomé and Príncipe (458 cases and 12 deaths), Mozambique (233 cases and two deaths) and Angola (77 infected and four dead).

In Africa, there are 3696 confirmed deaths in more than 124,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the most recent statistics on the continent's pandemic.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 355,000 deaths and infected more than 5.7 million people in 196 countries and territories.
