Angola is still in a scenario of local transmission with sporadic cases of covid-19, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the country told Lusa, stressing that a rigorous investigation is necessary before declaring community transmission.

On Monday, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, announced two new cases of covid-19 infection in the country, of which one was possible for community transmission and resulted in death, bringing the total number of deaths to 50. infected.

Speaking to Lusa, the WHO representative, Javier Aramburu, said that, in order to have community transmission, it is necessary that several contagion cycles occur for some time (at least one month) and that they were not identified.

"We are still in time to contain the transmission. Angola, at the moment, is in a phase of local transmission with sporadic cases. To say that another scenario has already passed, it is necessary to carry out detailed and very rigorous research," said the specialist.

This is what is being done by the Ministry of Health (MINSA), with support from WHO, this is the correct procedure, added the same official, estimating that preliminary results will be available this Monday.

"It is necessary to wait for the results to define the most appropriate intervention measures", he stressed.

According to health authorities, the most recent cases of infection are a 25-year-old woman, a nurse at one of the private sector's treatment centers and an 82-year-old man with various pathologies, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, who died just hours later. to enter the health unit.
