Government still negotiating concession for exploration of new airport but guarantees conclusions in May

The Minister of Transport said that the process of granting the right to operate, manage and maintain the Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN), in the province of Icolo e Bengo, should be completed by May of this year.

The information was provided by Ricardo de Abreu, at the end of the field trip of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to observe the works on the access roads to AIAAN.

Two consortia were admitted for this process, one led by CAAP, with the integration of Mota Engil and BestFly, and another formed by AVIC and the Chinese airport operator Yunnan Airport Group.

“We have two proposing consortia, we are in the negotiation phase to see if we can conclude it in May”, stressed the minister.

Regarding the access roads to Dr. Antônio Agostinho Neto Airport, the minister reaffirmed the Executive's commitment to completing, before the end of this year, the segregation project along the Bungo Station – AIAAN railway section.

The works consist of the construction of a fence wall to segregate the railway line to eliminate external threats to the movement of locomotives, such as the movement of people along the line, the presence of informal markets and the accumulation of garbage.

“The idea is to be completed before the end of the year, this year 2025, and to have all the conditions to operate safely, obviously with operational efficiency,” he said, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.

Ricardo de Abreu stated that a joint work program is being prepared with the provincial governments of Luanda and Icolo e Bengo to integrate the communities in this segregation project: “We are interested in the communities being with us in defending this infrastructure that will benefit everyone”, he highlighted.

The objective, according to the Minister of Transport, is to ensure that communities are properly aware and to ensure that local government bodies have the necessary conditions for waste treatment and sanitation in these areas.
