President visits works on the Luanda-Icolo e Bengo circular road, which will be completed in December

The expectation is that, from the end of this year, passengers will have new access to Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport. This is the Luanda-Icolo and Bengo circular road, the progress of which was visited this Thursday by the President of the Republic, to whom the builders promised that the project would be completed in December of this year.

According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, João Lourenço left "his office in Cidade Alta to go and see, on the ground, the progress of the project, having received a promise from the builders that the work will be completed in December 2025".

On that occasion, the President and his entourage had the opportunity to experience the condition of the road.

"The Head of State's motorcade and the members of the Government involved in the field visit were able to experience the state of the road, which already has several kilometers of asphalted surface," the statement reads.

Thus, within months, it will be possible to access Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport "via an alternative route, the Luanda-Icolo and Bengo circular road".

"This is a solution found to ease traffic on National Road 230, also known as Deolinda Rodrigues/Estrada de Catete, taking into account, above all, road connections in the direction of Luanda-Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport and vice versa", the note states.

In addition to the highway, the head of state also checked the rail access, having taken the train from the airport to Bungo station in Luanda, a journey of 45 kilometers.

"The presidential delegation headed to the airport station located in Bom Jesus (Icolo e Bengo) and from there departed by train to Bungo Station, in downtown Luanda. The 45-kilometer journey allowed the President of the Republic to inspect the state of the railway corridor, where extensive segregation work is taking place to eliminate the vulnerability of the transport system to external threats that have long been identified, such as the movement of people on the route, the presence of informal markets and the accumulation of garbage," the statement said.

After the visit to the site and back in the capital, the head of state led a meeting with the "main agents involved in the construction process of the future Luanda-Icolo and Bengo circular road, for a collective assessment of the work and pertinent decision-making".
