Bengo: disposable utensils factory will produce 2000 tons/year

A disposable household goods factory, capable of producing approximately 2000 tons of plastic products per year, opened its doors this Wednesday in Bengo. Named ‘Dafa Plástico’, the manufacturing unit was inaugurated by the governor of Bengo, Maria Antónia Nelumba, who, at the time, considered that this unit would allow the country to end imports of this type of product.

Located in the Barra do Dande Economic Zone, in the Sino Ord complex, the new manufacturing unit had an investment of approximately 1 million dollars. In addition to strengthening national production, the new infrastructure also boosted employability, generating just over 60 new jobs.

According to the general director of Sino Ord, Frank Li, the factory currently has 60 Angolan workers and two foreigners.

In terms of production, the manager pointed out that the unit will produce 180 tons per month.

"The investment value of this product is one million dollars and, with the investment from Sino Ord, the annual production is 2000 tons, the monthly production is 180 tons. We have 60 national workers and two foreign technicians", he said, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

In turn, the provincial governor considered the factory to be an advantage for the country, as it will make it possible to 'put a stop' to imports: "The factory produces plastic products, therefore packaging, especially cups, packaging that can be used both in the hotel industry and in the tourism industry, for bars and restaurants, for burger joints, in short, a series of products that, if they were previously imported, can now be purchased here in the province of Bengo, since we have this unit fully operational", she stated.

According to RNA, the expectation is that the factory unit will produce up to around five tons of disposable plastic products per day, such as cups and plates.

Construction of this factory began in 2023, opening its doors approximately two years later.
