TAAG signs historic codeshare agreement with Brazilian GOL

TAAG and the leading airline in the Brazilian market GOL have signed a codeshare agreement that will boost passenger traffic between Latin America, Africa and Europe, through the hub in São Paulo/Brazil (Guarulhos Airport) and Luanda/Angola (February 4 International Airport).

The flag airline informs, in a statement sent to VerAngola, that the agreement now signed allows both companies "to sell tickets including the partner's destinations, increase network coverage and collaborate with the sales force, in a win-win partnership ".

"The codeshare regime brings a number of advantages to passengers, such as more fare options to choose from, acquisition of a single ticket in local currency (for travel itinerary on both companies), guarantee of protection on connection, ease of flight booking, check-in and baggage dispatch (in transit), in addition to allowing the passenger to enjoy more destinations, with the combined TAAG and GOL network", reads the statement.

The national airline, adds the statement, "will make its flight code available to 13 domestic destinations in Brazil operated by GOL", namely "Rio de Janeiro (GIG and SDU), Belo Horizonte (CNF), Recife (REC), Porto Alegre (POA), Curitiba (CWB), Salvador (SSA), Brasília (BSB), Goiánia (GYN), Florianópolis (FLN), Fortaleza (FOR), Foz do Iguaçu (IGU) and Natal (NAT)".

In addition, the note from the national airline also explains that the agreement also allows TAAG to "market other regional GOL destinations on an interline basis", adding that "in return, GOL will place its flight code on the São Paulo route Paulo (GRU)-Luanda (LAD)-São Paulo (GRU) operated by TAAG, with the option of marketing other TAAG destinations such as Lisbon, Madrid, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Windhoek, Kinshasa, Ponta Negra or Maputo".

According to the document, from now on, TAAG customers who want to fly to GOL destinations in Brazil and Latin America (via São Paulo) "will be able to buy the ticket in kwanzas at the usual TAAG points of sale, and at the same time GOL customers wishing to fly to TAAG destinations in Angola, Africa and Europe (via Luanda) can obtain tickets on the GOL website".

Quoted in the statement, GOL's revenue vice president considered that "building this alliance with TAAG is expanding the alternative destinations for GOL customers to dozens of African cities, offering the opportunity to discover a continent so rich in natural beauties".

"Our clients will be able to leave from all our Brazilian bases and, from Guarulhos, go to Luanda, capital of a country with so many similarities with Brazil and, at the same time, very rich in its own culture", he added.

In turn, Eduardo Fairen, chairman of the Executive Committee of TAAG, said that it is with "great enthusiasm" that the flag carrier "celebrates this partnership": "It is with great enthusiasm that TAAG celebrates this partnership with GOL that will leverage tourism and the economy of our countries and reinforce the connection between Latin America, Africa and Europe through the transatlantic connection between Brazil (São Paulo) and Angola (Luanda). Private customers, families and the corporate segment will benefit from more destinations and greater flexibility in their intercontinental trips", he said.

TAAG currently has "five weekly flights connecting São Paulo and Luanda operated by a Boeing 777-300 aircraft", as well as having 13 international and 14 domestic destinations, reads the statement, which also adds that "GOL stands out for its capillarity of destinations in Brazil and Latin America, with more than 200 markets served in 72 bases in Brazil and 11 internationally, such as Orlando and Miami, in the United States, and Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza and Rosario, in Argentina".

There is also a commitment for the two companies to continue working towards progressively adding more destinations under the said agreement. "TAAG and GOL undertake to continue working to progressively add more destinations under the code-share agreement", reads the note.
