CFM train connects Lubango to Jamba again after two years paralyzed

The Moçâmedes Railway (CFM) resumed this Thursday the connection between Lubango and Jamba (in Huíla). This Thursday's trip marks the start of circulation on that section, two years after it was paralyzed due to the covid-19 pandemic.

:

Lasting five hours, the trip started this Thursday morning at Mukanka (Lubango) towards Entroncamento, where the train will take the branch to the Jamba headquarters. From there, the train – of mixed type and with the capacity to transport 300 people and 50 tons of goods – will head to Cassinga.

According to Angop, tickets cost 6100 kwanzas and 3245 kwanzas for second and third classes, respectively.

There will be one trip per week on this route, revealed José Gaspar Camunda, technical administrator of CFM.

The official, quoted by Angop, left the guarantee that there are technical requirements to comply with the frequency of trips, since a previous maintenance work was carried out on the branch.

Already Abel Wandy André, administrator of Jamba, acknowledged that the return of the train will respond to the need for transport of the 134,035 inhabitants of that municipality.

The news was also well received by local citizens, as the locomotive is considered the main means of transport for both people and goods.
