In the act of reopening the borders, the Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Pereira Furtado, and the mayor of the department of Ponta-Negra, Honoré Paka, on the Congo side, were present.

On the occasion, Francisco Pereira Furtado admitted that the opening of the Massabi border, as well as the fulfillment of security measures against covid-19 by both parties, satisfies the desire of the citizens of Cabinda, Kouilou and Ponta-Negra.

Cited by Angop, the minister indicated that "Ponta-Negra has a port used by importing agents from Cabinda to receive goods in transit to Cabinda, whose gateway is the land border of Massabi and Ntiamba Nzazi".

He also took the opportunity to leave a word of encouragement to the defense and security entities of the two countries to carry out greater inspection in the protection of the border as well as in the fight against human traffic, illegal immigration and trade, among others.

Honoré Paka considered that this opening will help restore trade between the citizens of Cabinda and Ponta-Negra.

It should be noted that the two countries share more than 200 kilometers by land and more than 100 by river.
