Problem solved in Luanda Airport beacon system

The constraints created late Monday afternoon at Luanda airport, due to a malfunction in the beacon system on the main runway, have already been resolved, announced the Airport Management Company (SGA).

:

In a statement, the SGA states that the malfunction, which generated "constraints in the planned nighttime operation", "affected 80 percent of the runway's service capacity, with direct implications for the operations of TAAG airlines, QATAR Airways and the National Air Force, whose aircraft were unable to move for a few hours".

The breakdown was recorded at 6:30 pm local time and, according to the SGA, "two hours after the occurrence" the situation was resolved "resulting in the restoration of normality of the runway and airport operations".

"This entire operation was controlled by a specialized team, accompanied by the Ministry of Transport, the supervisory body", the statement said.

Luanda International Airport has been operating for over 40 years and guarantees uninterrupted air operations, 24 hours a day.

The infrastructure has two lanes, a secondary and a main one which, “due to the state of the pavement and the day and night beacon system, has been benefiting from rehabilitation works since April 2021”, highlights the statement.

The works, which are scheduled for completion next July, include pavements and the construction of infrastructure and replacement of the entire beacon.
