FLEC-FAC calls on cabindans to boycott elections in August

The Front for the Liberation of the State of Cabinda – Armed Forces of Cabinda (FLEC-FAC) called this Thursday “all cabindans to boycott the Angolan elections”, which will take place in August this year, in that northern province of the country.

:

In a statement, the organization, which has been demanding the independence of that part of the country's territory for several years, states that "Angolan political parties are representative only of Angolan political interests and not of Cabinda".

"Voting in Angola's elections is an unpatriotic act of submission to Angolan colonialism. Voting in Angola's elections in Cabinda is accepting to be a slave to the Angolan Government and validating all past, present and future humiliations practiced by Angola in Cabinda", reads in the statement that the Lusa agency had access to this Thursday.

The independence movement in Cabinda, the country's oil province, also considers that "the elections in Angola are not elections in Cabinda".

"It also appeals to all cabindans to remain attentive to the seduction maneuvers that are being carried out by members of the MPLA [Movimento Popular da Libertação de Angola] and that will later tarnish the image and discredit Cabinda's political institutions and their leaders who even now they have done a remarkable job for the dignity of the people of Cabinda", highlights the statement.

"FLEC-FAC also alerts Cabindese political organizations and movements, and Cabindese civil society, to the electoral maneuvers of the MPLA, which has understood that it is completely rejected in Cabinda. Cabinda's political organizations and movements know that any initiative, promoted, organized and financed by the MPLA will only defend the interests of the MPLA and its oligarchs", the document adds.

Angola will hold its fifth general election in the second half of August.
