The country has 11 political parties eligible to run in the elections

The director of the Office of Political Parties of the Constitutional Court, Mauro Alexandre, informed that, so far, the country has 11 political parties able to run in this year's elections.

:

"We have 11 political parties with registration in force at the Constitutional Court," he said, speaking to Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

He made it known that the parties included the MPLA, UNITA, FNLA, the Democratic Bloc and the Social Renewal Party (PRS).

The Democratic Party for the Progress of Alliance - Angolan National (PDP-ANA), the Support Party for the Democracy and Development of Angola - Patriotic Alliance (PADDA-AP), the Angolan Majority Free Alliance Party (PALMA), the The Angolan Pacific Party (PPA), the National Salvation Party of Angola (PNSA) and the Atlantic Democratic Party (PDA) are also on the list of parties eligible to stand for election.

Speaking to RNA, Mauro Alexandre indicated that the Constitutional Court has a dozen pending requests from party installation commissions in hand and clarified that until the convening of elections these commissions can be legalized if they meet the required requirements.

"Those who still manage to do so within that period, until the elections are called, the constitutional court will, in principle, be able to do nothing more than recognize, register and consequently legalize these installation commissions as a political party," he said.

Regarding the United Patriotic Front, the official said that it is still "not its own legal entity" because it still has to fulfill some requirements: "The United Patriotic Front, legally speaking, is not its own legal entity, because to be, for example, a coalition had to communicate to the Constitutional Court and had to fulfill some basic assumptions", he said, quoted by RNA.
