Adalberto da Costa Júnior wants PR intervention to ensure election transparency

The president of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) criticized this Tuesday the lack of transparency in the electoral process, considering that if the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, gives the order, there is time to reverse the process.

:

"When the President of the Republic gives the order, the bodies tend to change their posture, so if there is a will from the political power, it is possible to change the scenario, not only in the media, but also in other vices that can be corrected if there is indeed willingness to do so", said the UNITA leader, during a press conference, in which he harshly criticized the electoral process.

"The technological solution that the National Elections Commission wants to use is deficient, has vices of abuse and misuse of power in connection with offenses to the CNE law and because the identified vices offend the principles of the electoral process, the truth and credibility of the elections is called into question", sentenced Adalberto da Costa Júnior.

At the press conference, which comes on the eve of the debate on electoral transparency scheduled for Thursday at the National Assembly of Angola, the opposition leader pointed out several examples of practices that he said constituted fraud and regretted the existence of illegalities in the preparation of the presidential elections. scheduled for the second half of August

"The first two acts of the new president of the CNE were to appoint a relative of his and as his advisor chose a member of the MPLA [Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola] central committee, which in a country with a normal functioning would not happen", said the congressperson.

Among the many examples of irregularities, illegalities and vices in the electoral process, Adalberto da Costa Júnior highlighted the "abusive use of the airtime granted to the head of state, who carries out all the inaugurations before the electoral campaign and transforms them into an electoral campaign, using resources and civil servants from other provinces", and I challenge journalists to investigate these practices.

"Any journalist can carry out an investigation into the transparency of our electoral process and will reach the same conclusions about the balanced composition of the CNE, the choice of the CNE president, the guarantee of electoral registration of Angolan citizens, the airtime, the treatment impartiality of the public press, without contradictory, the equal treatment of public institutions for all political parties, the forced relocation of voters to prevent them from voting outside their area of residence, the process of choosing the company responsible for the technological and logistical solution election, the role of the President's Security House in all the process and the change of delegates on the list so that political parties do not have enough minutes to control the process".

For Adalberto da Costa Júnior, a "free, fair and transparent electoral process can only happen if the vices of the past are not used now, and this is the great challenge of the President of the Republic - to guarantee a transparent electoral process", he concluded.
