According to the president of the SADC council of ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, the meeting, which ended this Monday in the Angolan capital, approved 47 decisions, the last being on the methodology for electing the next leadership of the UA.

At least 46 decisions were approved on Sunday and one on the rotation of leadership in the African Union was approved this Monday, on the second and final day of the meeting.

"Today we ended with a new decision that has to do with the next leadership of the African Union commission, a very important issue, so it was necessary to have this last additional decision that belongs to the southern region", said Téte António in statements to journalists.

According to the Angolan ambassador, SADC always has a common position when it comes to candidacies and the decision approved this Monday, by the council of ministers, "consecrates" the Community's position on the methodology for electing the next leadership of the African Union commission.

"A next annual rotating presidency of the African Union will be the Angolan presidency", highlighted Téte António.

Food security, youth, industrialization of the region, human factor, peace and security and health, are also included in the decisions taken this Monday from the meeting, as reported by Rádio Nacional de Angola.

Angola, which assumed the rotating presidency of SADC (a regional bloc made up of 16 countries) in August 2023, must formalize, at the end of this year, with the AU Commission, its candidacy for the rotating presidency of this continental organization.

Téte António defended on Sunday, at the opening of the work, more attention to the needs of young people in the context of human capital development, pointing out access to education and employment among the main challenges.

This year, Zimbabwe will receive the rotating presidency of SADC, which will be passed on to it by Angola.
