Téte António stated that Angola is a candidate to assume the presidency of the African Union in 2025 and the seat on the Peace and Security Council of the African Union this year. The decision will be taken at the African Union summit, to be held from 17 to 18 February, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
According to the head of national diplomacy, in February the countries will be selected and endorsed.
“And we think that our candidacy will pass, so that we can continue to contribute to the culture of peaceful solutions to conflicts that affect our continent”, said Téte António.
For this year, Téte António stressed that, without neglecting the bilateral agenda, Angolan diplomacy must continue to maximize actions in favor of the presidencies that Angola holds in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Organization of African States, Caribbean and Pacific (OEACP).
“However, the focus must be on the seat on the Peace and Security Council and the presidency of the African Union”, he stressed.
