Lima Massano defends support for the national economy and says that “there is enormous potential”

The Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, defended support for the national economy and producers, having also admitted that “there is enormous potential”. Speaking as part of a statement to national fishing companies, in Viana, the government official also reiterated that the Government will continue the work to guarantee the stabilization of prices.

At the time, Lima Massano considered that it is necessary to diversify the country's economy, but that this diversification does not necessarily involve investing in "new business segments", but rather gaining "scale with what is already being done".

"We have to support the national economy, our producers, we really have to continue, because there is enormous potential. Our economy has to diversify and at this point it is not necessarily about having new business segments, new segments that lead us to diversification, but it is about gaining scale with what is already being done", he pointed out.

In statements to the press, cited by Televisão Pública de Angola (TPA), the minister explained that the country usually resorts to exports and that this situation needs to be reversed. "It happens that whenever these means are necessary, the country goes abroad and, therefore, with this option we end up not enhancing what the country ultimately has the capacity to do. Therefore, it is this scale that has to happen", he stressed .

Thus, he said that the Government has already adopted some measures that give priority to what is done in the country.

"The Government has already taken some measures to ensure that its purchases prioritize what is made in Angola", he indicated, adding: "We will continue these exercises to try to understand what additional difficulties there are beyond this market organization".

Lima Massano also pointed out other support that can be granted, such as market access and financial support. "What other support can be granted, access to the market, financial support, some guidance even from a technical point of view, support in the certification of the work they are doing and the economy grows, greater supply of goods, services, but we also have more jobs and the economy with greater sustainability is capable of generating well-being for all Angolans", he stated, quoted by TPA.

The minister, after being questioned about the withdrawal of the gasoline subsidy – announced last week – said that this subsidy brought great burdens to the State and that it was already foreseen, having to "continue to move forward in normality".

"There is nothing extraordinary about removing fuel subsidies. Therefore, we have to continue to move forward in normality, as it is a process that was already foreseen", he pointed out, quoted by Angop.

On the occasion, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen do Sacramento Neto, also spoke about encouraging production in the country. "Bring maximum production to Angola, bringing employability as a flag, but above all bringing the industry strengthened and keeping up with our projection, because the population has grown. We want to increase aquaculture so that it brings more fish and extractive fishing is increasingly increasingly limited, so we have to look at the segment from start to finish", she pointed out, cited by TPA.
