Eugénio Laborinho, who was speaking at the inauguration of the Cassosso prison, in Waco Kungo, Cuanza Sul province, said that the Executive wants to increase the internment capacity and make penitentiary establishments "more dignified and humanized places".

Currently, there are around 24 thousand inmates in the country's 41 prisons, 12 thousand of whom have already been sentenced and the rest are held preventively, being planned the opening in the coming months of four more prisons: in Moxico, Cabinda, Bié and Huíla.

The infrastructure inaugurated this Tuesday will receive 600 male and 80 female inmates.

"We are aware of the numerous social, economic and financial difficulties that the country faces, which is why, in this penitentiary establishment, we will encourage investment in the development of agricultural and livestock production, like others, with favorable climatic conditions and fertile soils", highlighted the minister at the opening ceremony.

According to Eugénio Laborinho, the objective is to improve the diet of inmates, guarantee food self-sufficiency in prisons and reduce the import of products from the camp, as well as State charges.
