TAAG temporarily suspends flights to Uíge province

TAAG will temporarily stop flying to Uíge. According to João da Silva Pelinganga, director of the Provincial Office for Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility, the flag airline suspended flights to the said province due to operational and commercial reasons.

:

In force since the beginning of this month, namely on March 3, the measure – which is part of the readjustment of the national domestic flight program – will extend until May 31, writes Angop.

In addition to Uíge, domestically, the company also temporarily suspended connections to Cuito and, regionally, suspended flights to Accra, Ghana.

"Following an in-depth assessment and analysis of operational data, regular connections to the city of Uíge and Cuito at a domestic level, and to Accra (Ghana) at a regional level, were temporarily suspended, with immediate effects on the general flight schedule", reads in a company statement, sent to VerAngola.

In the note, the company says it is "adjusting its commercial plan in order to ensure a more rational and efficient use of the fleet, generally guaranteeing the sustainability of its operation", adding that the decision is provisional and that it will be reviewed again on June 1, "in order to find out about the conditions for resuming the routes".

Angop refers that, before the cessation of flights between the capital and Uíge, it verified the scarce influx of passengers, with less than half of the 70 available seats being filled, especially on Mondays.

Among the reasons, according to Angop, are the prices applied, ranging from 17 to 30 thousand kwanzas, depending on the date of purchase of the ticket, while buses that make the same route ask for up to 7500 kwanzas, among other constraints.

It should be remembered that the flagship airline resumed operations on the Luanda-Uíge-Luanda route in May last year, with two weekly flights, after more than two decades suspended.
