President of the Republic salutes the “bravery” of the combatants of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, did not let the Liberation Day of Southern Africa – which is celebrated this Thursday, March 23 – go unnoticed, having praised the “bravery” of the Angolans and Cubans “who fought against the invasion of the South African segregationist regime”, in the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale.

In the message, posted on the President's official Facebook page, João Lourenço encourages young people to "follow the heroic example" and never give in "to any attempt that threatens the peace and territorial integrity" of the country.

"Today, March 23, the Liberation Day of Southern Africa, I salute the bravery of the Angolan and Cuban children who fought against the invasion of the South African segregationist regime and I urge the youngest to follow the heroic example and never bow down to any attempt that threatens the Peace and territorial integrity of our country", reads in the publication.

In the brief publication, the head of state also leaves a "well done" to the heroes of Cuito Cuanavale, as well as the defenders of freedom, peace and territorial integrity: "Well done to the heroes of Cuito Cuanavale! Well done to the defenders of freedom, peace and territorial integrity!".

It should be noted that this Thursday marks the Liberation Day of Southern Africa, dedicated to the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale. The battle took place in the municipality of Cuito Cuanavale (Cuando Cubango) between November 15, 1987 and March 23, 1988, assuming a decisive role in the independence of Namibia and the end of the apartheid regime in South Africa.
