New agreement will bring Cuban experts to strengthen Health and Higher Education sectors

Angola and Cuba signed this Wednesday a strengthening of relations between the two countries, establishing new lines of bilateral cooperation, with a special focus on the health and higher education sectors, which will be reinforced with Cuban specialists.

The agreements were signed by the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, and by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz.

The country will soon receive high-level specialists for clinical care and training of specialized personnel for the Hospital Complex for Cardiovascular Diseases 'Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento', as well as for the Pediatric Hematological Institute 'Dra. Victory of the Holy Spirit'.

With regard to Higher Education, the principle of institutional intervention in sending Angolan students to Cuba was agreed. In this way, exchange policies will be established between the universities of both countries, with the parties committing to promote a meeting of rectors.

The two countries agreed that the international situation determines the strengthening of bilateral cooperation beyond traditional sectors, through the promotion of business investment. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX) and the Trade and Investment Promotion Directorate (PROCUBA).

Adão Almeida was in Cuba from February 28 to March 2, and delivered a message from President João Lourenço to his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel. He met with local entities and members of the Angolan community in Cuba (mostly students).

The delegation also included the Secretaries of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Finance and Treasury, Higher Education and the Hospital Area, as well as the Angolan ambassador to Cuba.
