Coin commemorating the 20th anniversary of Peace enters circulation on April 4

The commemorative coin for the 20th anniversary of the Day of Peace will enter into circulation next Monday, April 4th, the day on which the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation is celebrated.

In a statement, the National Bank of Angola (BNA) states that the currency, with a face value of 200 kwanzas, will be distributed to the public by commercial banks.

"The commemorative coin, whose distribution to the public will be carried out by commercial banks, highlights the illustration of a fraternal embrace between Angolans, a symbol of reconciliation and union, having been the winner of the design competition held for that purpose, at national level", can be read in the note available on the BNA website.

The BNA highlights some of the coin's characteristics, namely the fact that it is a unicolor silver and semi-serrated.

On the reverse of the coin there is its face value, the inscription 'Kwanzas', "basketry as a symbol of national culture and, at the base, the year of issue '2022'". On the face is inscribed the image of a "fraternal embrace, which expresses the national union between Angolans and the inscription at the top 'Paz e Reconciliação Nacional'".

The date '2002-2022', which refers to the "period between the year of signature of the Agreement that brought definitive Peace to Angola and the year of issuance of the present coin", is also on the face of the coin.

It should be noted that, as a security element, it should be noted, "inclining the metallic coin, within one of the zeros, the alternation of the number 200 with the letters 'BNA'".

The BNA also notes that "the new denomination, issued under Law No. 1/22, of 24 January, complements the coins in circulation" (50 cents, 1 kwanzas, 5 kwanzas, 10 kwanzas, 50 kwanzas and 100 kwanzas), adding up to a total of eight metallic coins from the kwanza family.
