Angola invests 1.6 million dollars to produce commemorative coin alluding to 20 years of peace

Angola invested 1.6 million dollars in the issuance of metallic currency worth 200 kwanzas alluding to the 20th anniversary of peace in the country, the central bank announced on Friday.

The information was transmitted on Friday by the governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), José de Lima Massano, noting that the coins commemorating the 20th anniversary of peace in Angola, which is celebrated on April 4, 2022, are being produced by the Russian firm Goznak.

"Our intention, and everything is being done to make this happen, is for them to come into circulation on April 4, 2022, and in this way we can mark this very important date for all of us Angolans", said the official at a conference of press.

José de Lima Massano was speaking on Friday at the end of the 103rd ordinary session of the BNA's Monetary Policy Committee, which took place this Friday at the headquarters of the central bank, in Luanda.

The issuance of a coin celebrating 20 years of peace in Angola was approved in November 2021 by parliament.

According to the report on the reasons for the law that authorizes the BNA to issue and put into circulation the aforementioned currency, the initiative aims to "contribute to national unity and cohesion, promoting peace and Angola, as well as the numismatic value of the kwanza".

The Angolan executive's initiative, according to the document, falls within the scope of the costs incurred by the BNA within the scope of its responsibility for the production of banknotes and metallic coins of legal tender and releasing power in the Republic of Angola.

Diameter of 28.5 millimeters, 10.5 grams, unicolor, semi-serrated with silver color are some of the characteristics of the commemorative coin to the 20 years of peace and national reconciliation in Angola.

On the obverse of the coin, the motif stands out, represented by the "fraternal embrace and the feeling of national union among Angolans" and the inscription at the top "PEACE AND NATIONAL RECONCILIATION".

Also noteworthy, among the features, is the inscription "2002-2022", referring to the year of the signing of the memorandum of understanding and the agreement that established peace in Angola.
