“Beyond my steps” takes Kamy Lara and Angolan cinema to Paris

Selected for the Cartão Branco program, the documentary “Para lá dos Meus Passos”, by Kamy Lara with production by the 80th Generation, will be screened in France at Cinéma du Réel - Festival international du Film Documentaire on March 17 at the Pompidou Center.

:

The festival will feature the presence of the director who will participate in a round table called 'Lusophone Africa' with directors and producers Lara Sousa (Mozambique) and Samira Vera-Cruz (Cape Verde), also on March 17.

Including in the Cartão Branco program, where six programmers and African personalities were invited to share their views on the new wave of African cinema, "Beyond my steps" was selected by Mozambican director Pedro Pimenta, one of the six guest curators of the program.

Cinéma du Réel mixes documentaries, essays and experimental films in selections that reflect the diversity of genres and ways of approaching the world of cinema, being one of the few documentary film festivals that emphasizes the heritage and memory of the genre, while at the same time puts it in dialogue with contemporary creation, says a statement sent to VerAngola. The festival runs from the 11th to the 20th of March.

Launching in 2019, the Angolan documentary was awarded the 'Best Documentary' award at the San Francisco Dance Film Festival (United States of America) and at Arquiteturas Film Festival Lisbon (Portugal).

She also won awards for 'Best Director', 'Best Photography' and 'Best Sound' at the Brazil International Monthly Independent Film Festival (Brazil) and a 'Special Mention' at the Big Syn International Film Festival (England).
