Cuito Cuanavale: Tumpo Triangle gets theme park

The Tumpo Triangle, in the municipality of Cuito Cuanavale, will gain a theme park. The infrastructure will host exhibitions of military equipment, with the aim of showing the younger generations the courage and determination of Angolans during the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale.

:

The government plans to build the theme park along the banks of the Cuito and Cuanavale rivers, in an area of approximately seven thousand hectares.

The park will have exhibitions of military equipment that will serve to mark the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale. According to Jornal de Angola, the purpose of these exhibits is to enlighten the younger generations about the Angolans' spirit of conquest and courage during the battle against the Apartheid regime in South Africa.

In addition to the exhibits, it is estimated that commercial and leisure areas will be created in the park. It is expected that restaurants, hotel units, carousels, roller coasters, swimming pools, among other establishments will be built.

According to Jornal de Angola, the area where the infrastructure will be implemented has an intact ecological system, which is crucial for the construction of what will be the first theme park in the country.

Construction has no date yet, but should start as soon as the demining of the site, which is underway by the National Demining Institute and the Military Engineering Brigade, is completed.

The Battle of Cuito Cuanavale took place between November 15, 1987 and March 23, 1988. During this time, the armies of Angola and Cuba confronted UNITA and the South African army.

The end of the battle was marked with the signing of the New York Accords, which led to the withdrawal of Cuba's forces from Angola, the liberation of Nelson Mandela and the independence of Namibia.
