:

In a statement published in the Jornal de Angola, the Cuango administration states that the public tender, with an execution period of one year, takes place under the terms of the Public Contracts Law.

The competition entails 12 projects, namely the rehabilitation and expansion of the Cuango water supply system, public lighting at the municipal headquarters, Cafunfo and Luremo, construction of a school with seven classrooms and construction of two schools with four classrooms in the Mwene Cafunfo neighborhood and Nguriacama.

The tender is also extensive for the construction of a health center in the Elevação neighborhood (Cafunfo), construction of bridges and placement of shackles over the Cabunda, Cole and Txicunhe rivers and construction of a warehouse for the disposal of agricultural products.

The 45-kilometer tertiary earthworks, Bala-bala section to the Canguanda neighborhood (Cafunfo), the acquisition of furniture for municipal administration and directions, the acquisition of machinery for basic sanitation within the scope of the PIIM (Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities) ), equipping of the 4 de Abril school and the provision of school lunches are also part of the public tender.

According to the announcement, signed by the municipal administrator of Cuango, Guilherme Cango, for the award criterion, the "economically advantageous proposal will be chosen taking into account the factors set out in the procedure documents".

The mining village of Cafunfo, municipality of Cuango, eastern Angola, focused the attention of authorities and members of civil society following the incidents of January 30, which the authorities considered an "act of rebellion" and others describe as "peaceful demonstration" ".

Local citizens and other actors in society lament the "weak" socioeconomic status, with negative effects on families, in that region rich in mineral resources, a fact that has motivated "demands for better living conditions".

According to the police, about 300 people linked to the Portuguese Protectorate Movement Lunda Tchokwe (MPPLT), which has been defending autonomy in the region for years, tried to invade, in the early hours of January 30, a police station in Cafunfo, and in defense, the forces order and security killed six people.

The police version is contradicted by MPPLT leaders, opposition political parties and local civil society who speak of more than a dozen deaths in an attempted demonstration.

Following the incidents, MPPLT leader José Mateus "Zeca Mutchima" was arrested in Luanda on 8 February, indicted for the crimes of "association of wrongdoers and armed rebellion".
