The Portuguese Consulate in Luanda has been following the case of the citizen, who complained on a TV Zimbo program about the lack of financial conditions to take the covid-19 test in order to be able to return to Portugal and to have overdue wages.
According to the same source, the citizen was received last week at the consulate, where he was advised to revalidate the plane ticket, which he had already purchased, and the former employer who denied the existence of debts was also contacted.
The Portuguese entered Angola in January 2020, on a tourist visa, and was due to return in April, but was held back due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The source added that the citizen has already taken the test, after the appeal made on television, and leaves for Portugal on Wednesday.
Asked about the repatriation requests due to the lack of economic conditions on the part of citizens residing in Luanda, the consular source said that there was no increase in this type of situation, estimating less than half a dozen requests since last year.
Usually, he added, the cases of citizens who find themselves in situations of this kind end up being solved without consular intervention, thanks to the supportive solidarity of friends and family.
When repatriation is triggered, citizens are obliged to reimburse the Portuguese State afterwards, and their passport will be retained until the debt is paid.
