According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of infected people in the 55 member states of the organization is 4,154,740 and the number recovered in the last 24 hours is 9322, for one total of 3,723,610 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Southern Africa continues to be the most affected region, with 1,897,190 infected and 59,626 killed by contagion with the disease. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, records 1,541,563 cases and 52,535 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,228,888 infected and 35,336 fatalities.
East Africa accounts for 476,881 infections and 8703 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 426,984 and that of deaths is 5595. Central Africa has 124,797 cases and 2058 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 11,768 deaths and 198,011 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8788 deaths and 493,353 cases.
Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 8663 deaths and 248,037 cases, Algeria, with 3071 dead and 116,451 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2741 fatalities and 194,524 infections.
In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique records 753 deaths and 66,762 cases, followed by Angola (532 deaths and 21,914 cases of infection), Cape Verde (164 deaths and 16,787 cases), Equatorial Guinea (102 deaths and 6851 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (61 dead and 3607 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (34 dead and 2177 cases).
